There is good awareness of the benefits of organic farming and consumers want to know more about it, John Portelli, from the Malta Organic Agriculture Movement, said.
The movement has set up a stand at the Malta International Trade Fair, in Naxxar, and is attracting quite a few consumers.
"We are getting a very good response and the demand for the products is phenomenal, so much so that we are selling out every night," he said. "People ask us where can they get the products from.
"Consumers want to know more on what organic farming is and how it can improve their well-being.
"They are also concerned about the effect of chemicals on their health, and, especially, on that of their children."
Farmers are also showing interest in organic farming, with some expressing their wish to switch their produce to organic because this excludes the use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides and other chemicals.
Organic produce is still more expensive than other produce but, Mr Portelli said, consumers did not mind paying extra for quality.
Olive oil, wine, cherry tomatoes, plums, peaches, aubergines, green peppers and marrows are among the products displayed at the MOAM stand. Mr Portelli said the Agricultural Ministry asked the association to participate at the annual fair, offering it a place on its pavilion.
