A 23-year-old man was yesterday charged with posing as a police detective at a hotel in Attard in an attempt to make use of the hotel's facilities without paying.

David Ellul, of Mosta, pleaded not guilty to assuming a public function without authority when he presented himself as a police officer at the Corinthia Hotel on Monday. He was also charged with breaching the peace and threatening a man at the hotel.

He was granted bail on condition he does not approach the hotel and was bound by a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.
