648 theft reports were filed to the police in June, Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said yesterday.
As in previous months, the highest number of thefts, 183, occurred from cars. Other thefts included four hold-ups, 33 pick-pocketing cases, six cases of snatch and grab, seven thefts from boats, six thefts of boats and 40 thefts of cars, 48 house burglaries and 36 thefts from hotels and bars. There were 26 thefts from beaches, six from factories and 7 from shops.
Replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Gavin Gulia, the minister said that in June the police also handled 13 reports on arson, 99 attempted offences, 106 cases of bodily harm, two cases of computer misuse, 229 cases of damages, 18 drug offences, 10 forgery cases, six fraud cases, 16 cases of illegal immigration, four cases of prostitution, 10 sexual offences, five cases of threats and private violence and 16 cases of violence against public officers.
The minister said that in the same month, 45 persons were found guilty of committing a crime.
During the same month, the police solved 34 cases of theft and criminal proceedings were started against 13 people.
