Prizes were distributed to students who this year participated in an educational programme organised by the Malta Tourism Authority called Choice.

The main objective of this programme is to raise awareness and promote careers in the tourism industry among secondary school students. Choice has been running for a number of years with a total of over 9,000 students benefiting from the programme.

Feedback received by students, parents and teachers was very positive. Students from each of the 29 schools participating in this year's programme, one of which was in Gozo, were invited to participate in a competition through the submission of a tourism-related project.

The first prize, a trip to Prague sponsored by Corinthia Hotels International and Air Malta, was won by Matthias Ebejer and Clayton Tabone from the Archbishop's Seminary in Rabat with their project called "A journey through Prehistoric and Neolithic Malta".

The second prize, a weekend break in a hotel in Malta, also sponsored by Corinthia Hotels Intemational, was awarded to Tara Cefai and Claudia Bezzina from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in St Julian's. Their project was called "Disabled?... A holiday with a difference".

The third prize consisted of a set of limited edition books and was won by Elisa Savona Ventura, Kimberly Galea and Deborah Agius from the Convent of the Sacred Heart with their project "The entertaining Aqua Wave Hotel".

The prizes were awarded by MTA chairman Romwald Lungaro Mifsud, during a ceremony organised at the Corinthia Palace Hotel in Attard on June 23. The Choice programme, which was organised with the collaboration of various hotels, restaurants and travel agencies in Malta and Gozo will be organised again during the next scholastic year.

The MTA's Industry HR Development Unit is responsible for the development of human resources in the tourism industry. The promotion of careers within schools is one of the important objectives of this unit.
