Mr Felix Busuttil from YADA Dance Company (The Sunday Times, July 2), wrongly alleged that Puerto Flamenco, which is being performed at Customs House, Valletta, is VAT-exempt.

It is to be pointed out that this production was actually granted an exemption from the issue of a fiscal receipt for each entrance ticket on grounds that it has satisfied the conditions of providing the VAT Department with the necessary controls over the entrance ticket system.

Such exemptions have to be quoted on the entrance ticket.

This does not constitute an exemption from the payment of VAT but is just a normal procedure usually adopted for practical reasons to replace the receipt from a fiscal cash register.

Mr Busuttil is invited to obtain further information from the VAT Department.
