Conspiracy of carnage

When I returned to live in Malta six years ago I was fortunate to discover Ta' Cenc in Gozo.
It ranks as one of the most beautiful places in our island home. Its sense of peace, tranquillity and timelessness are a unique balm to our 21st century lifestyle. I have returned to Ta' Cenc many, many times and still it fills me with wonder. I have taken countless visitors - friends, family and acquaintances - and it has never failed to work its magic on them.
I visited in ignorance, just to enjoy its beauty, but I have recently learned of the rare flora and fauna that flourish there and nowhere else in our islands.
I have also learned that it is soon to be completely destroyed - unless we all act quickly and resolutely to save it.
The conspiracy of carnage has found another target to rape and pillage. We know who these conspirators are - the people who put profit before cost, the same people who destroyed Sliema, neglected Valletta (potentially the most beautiful city in the Mediterranean) and covered over 20 per cent of our island with concrete monstrosities... When will they stop? When they have turned the whole place into a concrete-covered dump?
What I find hard to understand is why we let them. The conspirators do not own our environment. We do; we and our children and our children's children. Why do we stand by and let them wreck our property?
We must act now. We must stop the rot before the conspirators wreck the little that is left. We must draw a line and say no more. We must be absolutely resolute. Only we can do it, and we will be unforgiven forever by future generations who behold the destruction we permitted if we do not.
Support your NGOs who are working so tirelessly to save Ta' Cenc and our islands. Do your bit. Take action. Write to your MPs, your ministers, your councillors, Mepa. Make your voice heard; visit www.savetacenc.com and sign the petition.
We can stop the conspiracy of carnage with our own campaign for conservation. Act now. Save Ta' Cenc.
