The news site for The Times and The Sunday Times, timesofmalta.com, took a major step forward yesterday with the launch of several innovative features.
While retaining most of the user-friendly navigational assets that online readers have come to expect, the site has a fresh look.
And beyond that fresh look are some very useful additions.
The front page of The Times and The Sunday Times is now available for download from the site itself. This feature is expected to provide a pleasant surprise for anyone living abroad who will now be able to read the front page at leisure.
Breaking news, both local and foreign, have been promoted to a more prominent position indicating a continued focus on keeping readers updated throughout the day.
Another first is the publication of the classified adverts. Classified adverts published in The Times and The Sunday Times are retained online for one week and are easily searchable.
Feedback from readers has been extremely positive. By 8 p.m. yesterday, 1,500 copies of the front page had been downloaded.
This makes it possible for people as far away as Australia to download for free and read the front page of The Times on the day it is printed.
