The Malta Council and the Arts is in the process of changing its role from organising institutionalised cultural events to promoting and creating new cultural concepts and products.
In a press release issued yesterday, the council said this "ambitious overhaul" will provide Malta with high calibre projects and events, which would also serve to attract culture tourists particularly during the lean tourism season.
The new council staff are Paul Mifsud, executive director, and Mary Ann Cauchi, Mario Frendo, Davinia Galea and Kate Wiberg.
Hans Cauchi, chairman of the council, will be assisted by Josef Camilleri as vice-chairman and council members Sir Cameron Mackintosh, Rev Prof. Peter Serracino Inglott, Francesca Balzan, Isabelle Gatt, George Glanville, Philip Ciantar and Kevin Scibberras in steering the council in its new direction.
