San Giljan Zara had an easy outing against Ta' Xbiex Mermaids Paradise, netting 15 goals in the process, but only after shaking off the resistance of the team coached by Aldo Scerri.

In fact, Ta' Xbiex were able to hold their own in the opening two sessions, on two occasions even taking the lead. They managed to shift ends sharing eight goals with their opponents.

However, the Saints stepped up their game by more than a gear in the subsequent quarters and managed to rain in no fewer than 11 goals to keep their fading opponents stranded. Matthew Zammit was the Saints' top scorer with six goals.

Marsascala 7

Neptunes Vodafone went on a scoring spree against a hapless Marsascala Breakers who were never able to match their opponents for speed, movement and shooting power.

The initial sessions were not all that one-sided, but as often happens, the stronger sides are able to press the accelerator and score at will in the latter stages of the match.

Neptunes obliged with Steve Camilleri netting a record nine goals.

The outcome had never been in question despite a mere five-goal gap that matured midway through the match. But the Reds' superiority and the draining energies of the southseasiders had the former team completing the rout on a 24-7 scoreline.

As anticipated, the attendance was very scant, no doubt due to the attraction of the England-Portugal World Cup quarter-final.
