Rune Winkler made it a double of ITF U-18 tournaments in the space of a few days after beating Matthew Asciak in yesterday's final in Aarhus.
Winkler, no.191 in the world rankings, won the match 6-2 6-4. Last week, the 17-year-old Dane was the winner of another world U-18 competition which was played in Copenhagen.
Asciak, 16, was a semi-finalist in the Danish capital. His latest exploits in Scandinavia will see the Maltese hopeful making a significant leap in the world rankings after starting June at no.785. Before the tournament in Aarhus he had already climbed to no.580.
Meanwhile, Asciak will now focus his attention on the Davis Cup Euro/African Zone Group IV qualifiers which will be played in Malta between July 17 and 23.
At the Marsa Sports Club, he is expected to partner his father Gordon in the doubles for what is considered to be the first ever father-son Davis Cup combination.
The ten teams taking part are: Azerbaijan, Benin, Iceland, Kenya, Madagascar, Malta, Mauritius, San Marino, Senegal and Uganda. Djibouti and Ethiopia withdrew.
