Maltese lacemakers attend international congress

Eight Maltese lace-makers have just returned from the 12th International Lace Congress organised by OIDFA (Organisation International de Dentelle a Feseau et l'Anguille) in Athens. Each participant attended a workshop with a different theme: Chios Mosaic lace, Cretan Bobbin lace, Finger lace and Asia Minor stitch (embroidery).

The group attended a number of lectures while Consiglia Azzopardi, Emma Borg, Margaret Crocker and Anna Maria Gatt also attended council meetings.

During this congress, Malta, along with another 16 countries, participated in an exhibition demonstrating various types of laces and their different techniques.

Along with this exhibition, an international competition was organised on the theme 'The Crazy Boat'and Anna Maria Gatt won first prize.

Emma Borg and Aloisia Pace, employees with the Adult Education Division, were supported by the European Union's Socrates programme - Grundtvig 3.
