Obituary

CACHIA. On June 29, at St Luke's Hospital, MARY née Vassallo, aged 47, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband John, her children Mark, Matthew, Luke and Joanne, her father Josie Vassallo, her many uncles and aunts, cousins and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's hospital tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the Carmelite parish church, Fgura where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Malta Hospice Movement will be greatly appreciated.
Lord grant her eternal rest.

GRISCTI. On June 29, at St Luke's Hospital, GIOVANNA (Ginnie) née Pace of Sliema, aged 94, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter Joan, her son Ray and his wife Silvana, her grandchildren Caroline and her fiancé Simon, Suzanne and her fiancé Bobby, Erika and her fiancé Jonathan, and Patrick, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

MIZZI. On June 28, at her residence in Senglea, JOSEPHINE, aged 75, widow of Lawrence, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Francis, Irene and Mario and their spouses, grandchildren, her sisters, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital on Monday, July 3, at 7.15 a.m. for Maria Bambina Basilica, Senglea where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 7.45 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi will be greatly appreciated.

PORTELLI. On June 29, at St Luke's Hospital, CARMELO, known as Nenu, aged 69, of San Gwann, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Antonia, his children Sammy and his wife Marouska, Monica and her husband John, Joseph and his wife Carmen, his grandchildren Anthea, Gary, Chiara, Charlene and Jeremy, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

VELLA. On June 28, Col. ETHELWALD EMILIUS L/RAMC, aged 85. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Bice née Rizzo, his son Emmanuel and his wife Cecilia, his daughters Moira and her husband Christopher Tailby, Fiona and her husband Simon Miller, Anne and her husband James Bartholomew, his beloved grandchildren Sebastian, Josefa, Cyprian, Laurence, Grace, Beatrice and Alexandra.
The funeral leaves Capua Hospital tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. for L-Ibrag parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to Dar tal-Providenza would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. May he rest in peace.

Charity Evening

The Bay Street Complex will today be hosting an evening of entertainment in aid of the extension project at Dar il-Wens.

A show entitled Tini Cans...Nghix Ahjar will be held at the Rotunda in Bay Street between 7 and 10 p.m. Special guests include Ira Losco, the young Talent Team and Claire Massa among others.

Donations may also be made by SMS on 5061 7360 for a donation of Lm1; 50618928 for a donation of Lm3 and 5061 9219 for a donation of Lm5. All donations will go towards Dar il-Wens and donors have a chance of winning a weekend break for two.

Power Cuts

The electricity supply will be suspended in San Gwann between 8 a.m. and noon today in parts of In-Naxxar, San Guzepp and Bella Vista streets and Il-Begonia Street.

State Aid For Meat

The application period for temporary state aid for meat and butter products closes on July 11.

Applications have to be submitted between 8.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. to the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Department of Policy Development, BS Buildings, State Aid Unit, N/S Off Mosta Road, Lija, BZN 09.

Applications will cover the period July-December 2006. When applying, importers who are eligible to be registered as either traditional importers or non-traditional importers are required to provide details of their purchase plans for the next six months.

Prospective importers are required to provide a bank guarantee to the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment. The guarantee will be released within four weeks of the physical delivery and customs clearance of the goods in Malta.

Interested applicants are requested to note that importers who have applied for temporary state aid during 2005 are required to present information regarding imports during that year. This however applies if such information was not presented to the State Aid Unit. The guidelines and application can be obtained through the website:

Alzheimer's disease

To mark the 100th year since Alois Alzheimer, a German neurologist, described the disease that carries his name, the Malta Dementia Society will be holding a lecture for healthcare professionals entitled 100 Years Of Alzheimer's Diseases at the conference hall of the Medical School, St Luke's Hospital, Guardamangia, on July 18 at 8 p.m. The lecture will be delivered by Carmelo Aquilina.

Dr Aquilina will be giving an account of the history of the illness, current knowledge and possible future directions.

Admission is free of charge. Participants can ask for a certificate of attendance at the end of the meeting.

Bible Course

The St Francis Prayer Group will run a biblical course entitled The Books Of Wisdom, which includes books by Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Qoheleth, Canticle of Canticles, Wisdom and Sirach, at the St Francis Centre, Hamrun starting on July 4 at 7 p.m.

Fr Karm Attard will be delivering the course, which consists of 11, one-hourly lectures in Maltese.

All those interested are to bring with them the Holy Bible, preferably the one published by the Ghaqda Biblika Maltija.

Prayer meeting

The committee Moviment Madonna Tal-Konsagrazzjoni will be holding a prayer meeting at Girgenti, Siggiewi on Sunday at 6.30 p.m.
