A woman and her son were yesterday cleared of trying to burgle four establishments while a man was cleared of complicity in the charge.

Maria Farrugia, 44, of Zejtun and her 22-year-old son Josef were acquitted of trying to break into a lotto booth and three shops in Marsascala on April 9, 2002. John Polidano, 38, of Birzebbuga was cleared of complicity in the attempted theft.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera cleared the three defendants saying the charges brought against them had not been proven.

Police Inspectors Morgan Azzopardi and Chris Galea Scanura prosecuted.
