The decision by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to apply article 39a of the Development Planning Act revoking the permit for development in St Anne Square, Sliema, has been welcomed by Alternattiva Demokratika.
AD environment spokesman Mark Causon said Mepa should ensure that such cases should be turned down and no second chance given.
AD expressed concern that the Mepa board was mislead by the submissions made in connection with the application and demanded that action be taken against those who abused in such a manner.
The St Anne Square application goes against sanitary regulations as the intended construction will obstruct light and air to the residences in the corner of the east side of the square. Moreover, the proposed structure would have stood on public land and adjacent to and covering part of a historical building, Mr Causon added.
