I am holidaying on this lovely island for the seventh time and have just been to the Marsaxlokk market. I was amazed at what I saw at one of the stalls.

In one very small cage I counted 11 baby birds which I would say were canaries and love birds piled together with no food or water. In another cage were two baby cockatiels, not even with their feathers fully grown yet, which did not look as if they would make it. They had no food or water either.

Doesn't Malta have a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals as we do in the UK? If not, it's time it did.
