Turkey's six-match ban for violence at a World Cup play-off against Switzerland has been halved, FIFA announced.

FIFA ruled Turkey must play its next three home competitive matches behind closed doors on neutral territory after players and officials brawled at the game last November in Istanbul.

Turkey will now be able to play qualifying matches against Hungary, Bosnia and Greece in front of its fans. However, Turkey's Euro 2008 Group C home qualifier against Malta on Sept. 6, will have to be played at a neutral ground.

The matches covered by the "home ban" must be played in a UEFA-affiliated country at least 500km from the Turkish border.

FIFA said in a statement it had also reduced sanctions imposed on Switzerland's Benjamin Huggel and Turkey's Emre Belozoglu.

Huggel and Emre will be suspended for only the next four competitive matches, not six.
