Mario Spiteri, 47, of Xewkija, appeared under arrest in the Gozo Criminal Court yesterday and accused of threatening and violently assaulting three Civil Protection Department officials.

He was further charged with inflicting slight injuries, uttering obscene language and breaching the peace.

Mr Spiteri was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm500.

Police Superintendent Paul Camilleri prosecuted.
