With its elegant looks and excellent roadholding, its welcoming passenger compartment and genuine versatility, the Peugeot 207 has made its entrance in the small car segment with eye-catching credentials in the safety department, too.

EuroNCAP awarded it five stars in tests for the protection of adult occupants (with 35 points out of a possible 37) and four stars in child protection tests (with 37 points out of 49).

"These results confirm the efficiency of a structure designed to withstand front and side impacts, and ensure the dissipation of energy," Peugeot said in a statement.

The dual front-impact absorption channel - a principle borrowed from the 407 and applied to the 207 - has the advantage in particular of distributing force more efficiently between an 'upper channel' and a 'lower channel', preserving the integrity of the passenger compartment more effectively.

Offering high-performance means of restraint to all its occupants - adults and children alike (front air, side and curtain airbags, seat belts with fasten-seat-belt warnings, three-point Isofix fixtures) - the 207 goes one step further in protecting the driver with a retractable steering column and an active footrest.

Confirming Peugeot's commitment to all forms of safety, even on small cars, the 207 gained three stars in EuroNCAP tests for the protection of pedestrians in collision with the vehicle (with 19 points out of 36).

To attain this uncommon level of performance, the 207 comes with a "pedestrian bar" incorporated in the lower channel, a "soft nose", and a bonnet constructed with a degree of integral structural flexibility placed at a distance from potentially aggressive mechanical components.

The 207 underlines the insistence on active, passive and even tertiary safety (automatic emergency call system, for example) that characterises all Peugeot products.

The 1007 and the 407 coupé were recently awarded five EuroNCAP stars, together with unrivalled record scores in tests for the protection of adult occupants: the 1007 obtained in excess of 36 points; 407 coupé, 35 points, including 16/16 points in the adult front impact test.
