A briton and his son have made it to Malta in a three-wheeled car and are embarking on their journey back home today.

Malta-born Rory Lynas decided to do something different to celebrate his 50th birthday so, with his son Craig, 22, he drove from Birmingham to Malta in a two-seat vintage car of which there are about 130 left worldwide.

The car was made by Bond in the early 1970s and runs on a 750cc four-stroke engine.

Mr Lynas was born at the Mtarfa hospital in 1956 while his father Irven was stationed in Malta. He spent the first two years of his life at Vittoriosa.

The trip to Malta took the father and son through the Channel Tunnel to France and down to St Tropez. They then drove around the western coast of Italy to Sicily, from where the catamaran brought them to Malta. The trip to Malta took 11 days.

Father and son now plan to drive up the east coast of Italy on the way back, and then to Luxembourg before hitting the tunnel again.
