The NCW regards one of the latest developments in the legislative arena in a very positive light. An amendment being advocated in the recent bill to amend the Civil Code proposes that, in the case of a child born out of wedlock, the status of a single mother will no longer be shown on the birth certificate.

This was done mainly for privacy reasons. According to the NCW, this is certainly a step in the right direction and one that further enhances the protection of women's rights in Maltese society.
