Daily Curremcy Report

Overview

The majors remained confined to a narrow range. The dollar held steady against the euro and the yen. The dollar's strength may be safeguarded as the expected rate hike may be greater than forecast.

GBP
The sterling was heavily sold off against the dollar but lost ground against the euro after the BoE announced that monetary policy committee member, David Walton, had passed away. Minutes from the BoE revealed that Mr Walton was the only committee member voting in favour of a rate hike. Traders have taken the news as a signal to sell the pound.

USD
The greenback held near a two-month high against the yen and also held onto its gains against the sterling, as the dollar continued to benefit from interest rate speculation and a lack of new information.

EUR
The euro lost ground against the dollar, as economic data disappointed market forecasts.

JPY
The yen was sustained after a People's Bank of China monetary policy board member said the country might allow its currency to appreciate faster. This news is expected to trigger yen buying.
