Why on earth does money, such a fundamental aspect of modern living, tend to be overlooked with it comes to educating our children?

Child magazine, out tomorrow with The Times, does not have an answer to that perplexing question. But it does present a most useful guide for parents to remedy that inexplicable gap in a lot of children's knowledge.

Money skills, Robert G. Coenen notes in an article called Money Management For Children, should be taught to children even from a young age - through the use of pocket money. Knowing how to budget, limit spending and save for that special purchase will stand them in good stead when they reach adulthood... learn those skills too late and they will suffer as a result.

Child is replete with articles that parents will find to be of practical value, from how to get children into the important habit of hand washing to helping them learn good manners. There are tips on safely bathing baby, making reading more fun, controlling television viewing...

And two highly human articles relate parents' experiences of raising a child with autism and having a baby prematurely.

All in all, a magazine not to be missed by the dedicated parent - and to be kept for future reference.

Child is published by Allied Newspapers Ltd and produced by Mediamaker Ltd. The editor is Mark Wood.
