Gift of Life have expressed concern and disappointment at the failure of the three Maltese Labour MEPs to support a proposed amendment on EU funding of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
The amendment was intended to ban EU funds from being used for scientific research on human embryos and human embryonic stem cells. The Labour MEPs' failure to vote in favour of the amendment renders the MEPs' pro-life views rather confusing, the NGO said.
Such a stand by those elected to represent the Maltese fails to respect the values of the vast majority of the population on the issue of human life, Gift of Life said. Their abstention goes contrary to the island's overwhelming pro-life culture, it added.
