It was brought to the attention of the Maltese Diabetes Association that participants during the recent Sting concert were not allowed to enter the Luxol grounds with any form of drink. They were in fact asked whether they had any drinks in their possession before entering the grounds and if their reply was in the affirmative they were told to dispose of them before entering.

The reason given was that drinks were supplied by the organisers within the grounds. There was also an instance where a person informed the official at the door that she was diabetic and required a juice to serve as a means of emergency in the event that her blood sugar levels were low. Also in this instance, the person was asked to dispose of the juice and was told to purchase any food and drink from the stalls within the Luxol grounds.

This is totally unacceptable since such medical conditions require immediate attention and one cannot afford any waste of unnecessary time such as trying to pass through the large crowds or queuing for a drink.

Is this acceptable? We leave it to your esteemed readers to judge the organisers' decisions in this respect.
