It has become an obsession with traffic wardens to hand out fines for no apparent reason. The other day, coming out towards St Julians from the poorly lit tunnel in Regional Road, a warden hiding underneath the road camera bounced on me and asked me to drive aside.

It happened that a few metres before the exit, I had already switched off my car lights. The warden insisted I should be given a ticket because when he looked the lights were off. To no avail, I tried to explain. His word against mine.

Is it not enough that citizens pay so many taxes? No, we have to pay a Lm10 fine just because a warden fails to see you switching off your lights.
