Frendo suing Sant

Foreign Minister Michael Frendo is suing Opposition Leader Alfred Sant for libel following allegations he made at the Qormi MLP club last Sunday.

In his speech, Dr Sant claimed that Dr Frendo had sold and distributed pirated CDs. The issue centred around the distribution of some Eurovision song contest CDs during a political activity held for Dr Frendo.

Dr Frendo said he was not aware of the distribution of any CDs and he had written to the Police Commissioner to take whatever steps he deemed necessary in this respect. Dr Frendo denied distributing or selling any CDs.

The minister declared that any damages that would be awarded by the court would be channelled towards the promotion of Maltese artistic talent.

Dr Frendo said he condemned any breach of copyright, no matter who may be behind it.
