The number of persons employed in the euro area rose by 0.3 per cent - 427,000 persons - in the first quarter of this year according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities.

The number of persons employed in the EU25 also grew by 0.3 per cent - 612,000 persons.

In the fourth quarter of last year, growth rates were +0.3 per cent in the euro area and +0.2 per cent in the EU25.

Compared to the first quarter of last year, employment grew by 0.9 per cent in both the euro area and the EU25 in the first quarter of this year.

Eurostat estimates that, in the first quarter of this year, 138 million men and women were employed in the euro area and 202.9 million in the EU25.
