Jaguar is to launch a supercharged version of its well-received XK coupe at the British International Motor Show next month.

Exact details of the XKR will be released on June 30, but customers can expect zippier performance than the current range which went on sale earlier this year - and a bigger price tag.

The supercharged XKR was designed at Jaguar's Coventry site and is expected to be one of the fastest-accelerating Jaguars ever. While the normally aspirated V8-engined XK is seen to target the likes of BMW's 6-series and Mercedes' CL class, the XKR is likely to be setting its sights more at cars such as Porsche's evergreen 911.

Jaguar have not yet released a price list for the XKR, but the XK coupe and cabriolet sell for between £55,000 and £65,000.

The XKR will be manufactured at Jaguar's Castle Bromwich Centre in Birmingham. In addition to being the assembly plant for three of Jaguar's four models, this is also where the aluminium bodies and structures for the XJ and XK are constructed.
