Borg with perfect record

Alex Borg goes into the last 32 KO stage of the European Championships in Romania unbeaten after winning his last two group matches yesterday.

Borg beat Dutchman Gerrit Bij de Leij 4-2 and Jeff Cundy, of England, 4-1 in a match that decided the group winner. Borg topped Group A with seven wins from seven matches.

Borg is third seed in the next draw behind Jamie Jones, of Wales, and Norwegian Kurt Maflin. The other seeded players are Patrick Einsle (Germany), Kevin Van Hove (Belgium), Yannick Poulain (France), John Torpey (Ireland) and Rune Kempe (Denmark).

In Group E, Simon Zammit finished second behind Einsle after beating Rafal Jewtuch, of Poland, 4-0. He cannot meet Borg in the KO stages before the last 16.
