A musical combining three masterpieces by internationally-renowned composers Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil will be staged on July 15 at 8 p.m. at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta, Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said.
As its name - LesMisSaigonGuerre - indicates, the musical will combine Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Martin Guerre. The national orchestra, accompanied by a chorus from St Monica Choir and the Helping Hands Group, will be directed by Joseph Grech. The musical will include a line-up of well known singers.
The Helping Hands Group - which is organising the event - was set up by teachers and students from the M.A. Refalo post secondary school, in Victoria. Since 1997, the group has staged musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Mro Grech said rights have been granted from Cameron Mackintosh Company Ltd, Alain Boublil Overseas Ltd and PRS, adding that Mr Schonberg would be travelling to Malta to watch the musical at the MCC before leaving for New York to launch a brand new musical called The Pirate Queen.
The proceeds from LesMisSaigonGuerre are in aid of Dar tal-Providenza. For more information about tickets contact The Helping Hands Group, PO Box Victoria, Gozo. (9942 1611/7955 1582) or the MCC booking office on 2559 5750/2559 5751.
