FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company, held its annual EMEA sales and marketing conference in Malta last month, when over 900 senior sales and marketing representatives from 130 countries met here to create FedEx sales and marketing strategies and plans for the new fiscal year.

"Although all teams communicate and met regularly throughout the year, this is a special moment for our sales and marketing employees to get together, exchange ideas and define objectives for the upcoming new fiscal year," Robert W. Elliot, president, FedEx Express EMEA, said.

This year's conference topics included the expansion of the FedEx network within the EMEA region, the continuous focus on service improvements and the EU accession.

"With the accession of 10 new countries, including Malta, into the EU, FedEx implemented a number of service improvements in those countries," David Binks, vice-president of sales for FedEx EMEA, said.

"To significantly shorten transit times and connect more customers to FedEx's fast and reliable global network, we have improved customs clearance and both inbound and outbound services."

Pierre Attard, managing director of Airsped Express, FedEx Global Service Partner in Malta, commented: "Being on an island does not mean that we are uncompetitive in terms of global reach or transit time - manufacturing companies in Malta have access to the same FedEx network as their counterparts on mainland Europe."

Customer Experience has been put high on the FedEx agenda and is a key component of its strategy. Being a truly customer satisfaction-based organisation is a continuous process and this year's conference focused on how FedEx can place customers at the centre of everything that it does.

As part of its continuing customer focus FedEx has made a number of senior appointments, including Antje Schutt-Fahrenkrog in the newly created role of vice-president Customer Experience EMEA and Dominique Van Den Peereeboom in the role of vice-president Human Resources EMEA.

Mr Elliott said: "Through ongoing dialogue with our customers we have introduced a number of initiatives to enable us to better respond to their needs. This re-organisation of our structure and the creation of a new customer experience leadership role reinforces our pledge to place customers at the centre of everything we do.

"We believe each FedEx employee plays a key role in delivering outstanding service to our customers."
