Bank of Valletta has entered into an exclusive agreement with American Express that enables the entire BoV ATM and point of sale networks to accept American Express cards.
"Bank of Valletta operates extensive ATM and EPOS networks in Malta and Gozo and, following our agreement with American Express, our ATMs now have the widest card acceptance base on the island," announced BoV CEO Tonio Depasquale. "This also applies to our network of point of sale terminals."
The agreement between Bank of Valletta and American Express will result in a much more comprehensive service for American Express card members who visit Malta. They now have the option to use ATM services, including cash withdrawals, at any BoV ATM in Malta and Gozo, in addition to using their cards to pay for goods and services directly by using their American Express card at any retail outlet that accepts BoV cards.
American Express today offers products and services in over 200 countries and territories around the world. The hallmarks of the American Express brand are trust, integrity, security, quality and customer service. American Express is the world's leading issuer of charge and credit cards to consumers, small businesses and corporations.
"We are truly delighted to deepen our relationship with American Express - a relationship which dates back to 1991 when Bank of Valletta became an American Express paying agent, reimbursing Maltese merchants for American Express transactions," Mr Depasquale said.
In 2003, BoV and American Express enhanced their relationship through an exclusive agreement that made BoV the sole American Express merchant acquirer in Malta. As a result, over the past years Maltese merchants have benefited from full local market servicing and support through the availability of a local phone number, 24-hour card authorisations from BoV, one integrated statement itemising all the merchant's credit card sales, quick merchant set-ups and new marketing opportunities.
"We believe that this development will continue to strengthen the BoV brand as the leading financial services brand in Malta," Mr Depasquale said. "We are looking forward to welcoming American Express cardholders at our ATMs and to offer them the friendly, caring and efficient service that is characteristic of Bank of Valletta while visiting our islands."
