Ira Losco will be one of the main acts at the Bob Geldof June 28 concert at Manoel Island.

Ira and the YMCA, who are organising the concert, share a significant bond because her very first gig was at the YMCA headquarters in Valletta. She has been a strong supporter of the YMCA since.

Ms Losco said artists such as Sir Bob can inspire others to show solidarity with those in need.

"There are lots of charities I like to give my support to. But the fact that homelessness is such a traumatic experience makes me extend my support even more.

"It is shocking that 300 Maltese individuals are homeless. Together we can cut that numbers," she said.

Last summer's leg of  the singer's promotional tour saw Ira and her band performing to crowds of between 3,000 and 80,000 people at several places in Germany.
