After leading Acer Priolo to the final of the Serie A1 women's championship, coach Santino Coppa is now in Malta to concentrate on the national team's commitments in the Promotion Cup next month.
Priolo were beaten 3-2 last month by a formidable Schio side, the pre-season favourites in Italy.
A Malta Basketball Association statement said Coppa is training with 20 players in his squad assisted by Australian Trudy Hopgwood. The group will be trimmed to 12 before the Promotion Cup gets underway.
Coppa said he was looking forward to coach the women's team again, especially with the MBA hosting the event at Ta' Qali.
"Memories of the wonderful GSSE final against Cyprus at the University Sports Hall are still fresh in my mind," said Coppa, adding that he will do his utmost to see the women's team doing well again.
"However, it does not depend solely on us. We also need the full support of the crowd as we had in 2003."
