Valletta FC members, who yesterday packed the St Dominic Hall for the club's annual general meeting, left the place with renewed optimism for next season even though the outcome was inconclusive.
A fresh call for nominations has been issued after only two candidates declared their intention to stand for committee election before yesterday.
As the meeting has now been adjourned until Sunday, members agreed to extend the deadline for new nominations until Saturday.
The turn-out for the AGM was described as the best Valletta have had for several years even though the team endured a barren 2005/06 season. City finished without a piece of silverware and failed to qualify for European club competitions.
Among those present for yesterday's meeting was former club chief Joe Caruana Curran. He made various interventions and even proposed that no elections be held to allow the current committee to retain their posts for another year.
Caruana Curran's motion received the backing of those present. However, president Charles Camilleri, who had earlier informed members of a positive outlook for the future after his committee had reached most of its financial objectives, insisted on a new call for nominations.
Sources have told The Times that following yesterday's response from the members, Camilleri and his committee are now likely to propose themselves for re-election.
Marsaxlokk committee
Marsaxlokk FC also held their annual general meeting yesterday during which changes to the club's statute were effected.
There are now six officials in the new committee for the next three years. These are: Mark Sciriha (president), Peter Hartshorne (vice-president), Victor Sciriha (vice-president), Hermann Schiavone (secretary), Gillan Sciriha (treasurer) and Thomas Zahra (member).
