Japan coach Zico has described as a "disgrace" the tackle by German Bastian Schweinsteiger on his wing-back Akira Kaji in a World Cup warm-up last week.

Kaji is still in pain following a nasty lunge by midfielder Schweinsteiger in the 2-2 draw with the tournament hosts.

"It was an absolutely disgraceful tackle," Zico said yesterday.

"Kaji was on the receiving end of a really bad foul. It should have been a red card, no doubt."

Kaji was taken off on a stretcher after Schweinsteiger's late challenge and is doubtful for his team's World Cup opener against Australia on Monday.

"We're very worried," said Zico.

"The fact he is still limping shows you what a bad tackle it was."

Schweinsteiger did not say sorry while Kaji was writhing in agony, according to captain Tsuneyasu Miyamoto.

"I don't think he apologised," said Miyamoto.

Asian champions Japan, who reached the last 16 as co-hosts four years ago, are also drawn with Croatia and holders Brazil in Group F.
