Date with history

The sixth card in a series being issued by Maltapost on a date when the day, month and year coincide - 06.06.06 - will be issued by the Philatelic Bureau today.

It will be available from all branch post offices and from the Maltapost mobile unit.

The first card in this series was issued on January 1, 2001, with a date stamp carrying the same figures.

The last card in what Maltapost said was a very collectable series is expected to be issued on December 12, 2012, and stamped with the figures 12.12.12.

This year's card, which retails at 29c, will carry a 5c stamp from the Battle of Malta issue, stamped with the June 6, 2006 date, and will be on sale until stocks last.

Philatelists and the public are advised that this card can be sent through the post to any destination without additional postage, provided it is posted by not later than Saturday. Cards similarly cancelled and posted after this date are to carry stamps to cover the required postage.
