I would like to thank the organisers of the Amedeo Minghi concert for making my wish come true! I have been following the brilliant career of this Italian singer and it would be an understatement to say that the magnificent Minghi performance held at the Valletta Waterfront on May 13 made my day.

Not only did Minghi perform all the songs printed on the commemorative publication, but he also performed an encore, which happens to be one of my real favourites, namely Speranza.

The concert was jam packed with Italian music lovers and the show started precisely on time. The Maltese talent, especially Ivan Filletti, gave a beautiful unplugged performance which was appreciated by all.

I do not normally put pen to paper and seldom write letters to the editor, but I was flabbergasted when I read a letter in The Times (May 23) criticising the organisers, even though the criticism was levelled at the venue itself. Sala Pinto, which is the name given by Valletta Waterfront to the venue, is in the process of being transformed from an unused property into a state-of-the-art cultural venue.

While I was queuing for the concert, I could not help but notice the tremendous work which has been completed on the façade. That must have cost loads of money and, in my humble opinion, it is money well spent.

So again, congratulations and keep on bringing to Malta big Italian names. This year we have already seen Marco Masini and Amedeo Minghi; any other names?
