With the 2006 FISEC Games coming up in a few weeks' time in Kecskemet, Hungary, the build-up for the students' sports festival in Malta is gearing up at a fast pace.
Recently, the FISEC Council held a meeting for coaches and were addressed by the organisation's head Brother Martin Borg.
Malta will be represented in seven different sport in Hungary, namely, athletics, basketball, Futsal, handball, swimming, table tennis and tennis. The Games will be held between July 21 and 25.
The coaches responsible for the Maltese FISEC athletes are: Michael Molzahn and Kevin Mamo (Futsal), David Pace (table tennis), Gail Rizzo (swimming), Ralph Mifsud and Leandros Calleja (track and field), and Milos Stanisavljevic and Matthew Mamo (handball).
Tony Cilia Pisani is co-ordinating training for tennis players and the girls' basketball team is guided by a technical team within the Malta Basketball Association.
Brother Martin said the FISEC Games have become a fixture in the local sporting calendar. He appreciated the coaches' hard work and dedication and confirmed that this year the FISEC committee will again subsidise the participation of all Maltese athletes.
"I would also like to thank all those within the various sporting associations for their constant help and support," he said. "This co-operation is certainly the key to success every year."
During the meeting, the coaches were also addressed by Carmen Carabott, FISEC Malta General Secretary, and David Azzopardi, the Technical Director.
Also present on the occasion were FISEC International officials Gianfranco Selvaggi, Louis Borg and Julie Bajada.
