Represetations by lay associations and movements on the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit took centre stage at this year's diocesan celebration of the Vigil of Pentecost.

The solemnity of Pentecost is a reminder of the occasion when the Church, in its beginning, received the gift of the Holy Spirit and reached out to preach the Gospel.

The Church calls on Christians to unite on this occasion, to thank God for the continued renewal of the Church, through the Holy Spirit.

This year's celebration, which had the theme "Together Encouraged by the Holy Spirit" was yesterday led by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca at Cottoner Avenue, Fgura.

The celebration focused on lay people after Pope Benedict XVI invited lay associations and movements to Rome for the Vigil of Pentecost.
