Car insurance

We refer to the letter by Mr Felix Mallia (The Sunday Times, May 28) and, without debating the merits of this particular case which is currently being dealt with by the Civil Courts, we would like to clarify these issues.

Contrary to the impression given, the extent of the premium being paid by Mr Mallia to his insurance company, which is not Citadel Insurance plc, does not in any manner have anything to do with this case.

Citadel is not in a position to comment on what the Malta Financial Services Authority said to Mr Mallia with respect to this case. However, one cannot but point out that, as the majority of car owners know, motor insurance proposal forms include specific questions about prosecutions or convictions of offences committed by the proposer.

The answers to questions on insurance proposal forms are very important for all insurers since they allow them to evaluate the risks being proposed.

Mr Mallia was spoken to by Citadel on several occasions and his claim was discussed in detail and Citadel's position clearly explained.

We wish to assure your readers that Citadel has followed all the applicable legal provisions which deal with such situations.
