Caritas Malta is collecting donations in various parishes in aid to victims of the earthquake in Indonesia as part of a coordinated operation by Caritas Internationalis.

Donations can be given directly to parish priests, presented personally at Caritas in Floriana or sent to Caritas Malta Fund Indonesia, Caritas (Malta), Lion Street, Floriana.

Money can also be deposited in bank accounts APS No 2000043083-1; HSBC 089021513051 and BOV 40015159278.

Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 162 Catholic relief, development and social service organisations present in over 200 countries and territories.

Meanwhile, the Civil Protection Department is also running a campaign to collect goods in support of the earthquake victims.

Today, the Scouts Headquarters at Hamrun will be open all day for those who wish to deliver items.

The Director of Civil Protection, Peter Cordina, said that the items required include blankets, tents and tinned or packed foodstuffs. Water is no longer required.
