Environment Minister George Pullicino should give a special medal to the person who came out with the concept, design and detailing of the karrozzin shelter in front of the Magisterial Palace. I am sure that this person must have spent many hours trying to think of the best possible design and of the intricate detailing necessary to make sure that the best possible design is made.
I am told that it is the work of the Malta Transport Authority and I do hope they consider covering the whole square with these green plastic covers. I am glad to note that the Malta Environment and Planning Authority did not consult the Valletta Rehabilitation Project on this application: that way the canopy was done in no time at all, so much so that they did away with making drainage trenches! It is a pity, however, that this very high canopy (maybe for a better design?) is so high that most of the horses' head is out in the sun anyway. I am sure that the design also intentionally makes sure that there is no space between the carriages (maybe so as not to take too much space of the square?) even though this may lead to a serious incident.
It is so heartening to see that we have in this country persons who make such a big effort to protect our heritage and our animals. Perhaps a Gieh ir-Repubblika would not be out of place.
