Daniel Lanzon, a 20-year-old from Cospicua, was sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing a laptop and cash from St John's Co-Cathedral, in Valletta, on 1 May 10, just a week after he had served a two-year jail term.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti said that even after taking into account Mr Lanzon's early admission and that he had returned what he had stolen, it still felt that the young man had lost the opportunity to be given the benefit of a probation or suspended sentence.

Police Inspector Michael Mallia prosecuted.
