Sliema Wanderers midfielder Roderick Bajada is the frontrunner for the Public's Best Maltese Player accolade at this year's fifth edition of the Malta Football Awards.

A statement from the organisers said that the provisional classification of votes from the public shows Bajada in pole position ahead of Birkirkara duo Etienne Barbara and Michael Galea respectively.

According to the latest bulletins released by Vodafone and Go Mobile, Hibs forward Andrew Cohen, Simon Agius, the Floriana goalkeeper, Valletta captain Gilbert Agius, young Mosta midfielder Dyson Falzon and Sliema defender Brian Said are also in the running for this award.

Members of the public can nominate their preferred candidate for the award by sending an sms on 5061-4005.

Voting will remain open until 15 minutes from the end of the Malta Football Awards presentation night to be held next Wednesday at the Corinthia Palace. The event will be shown live on Melita's Sports Channel and Information Channel.

Sandro Micallef, chairperson of the organising committee, said preparations for the final evening are now in full swing.

"There is great anticipation for this year's awards, especially among the players, coaches, club officials and fans who are curious to know the winners," Micallef said.

The finalists in each of the 14 categories will be announced on Monday.
