The Malta Taekwondo Federation (MTF) participated in the third Open Windmills Championships, held in Dordecht, Holland, last weekend.
The event was hosted by the Taekwondo Club Papendrecht, under the supervision of Rakesh Gajadhar.
The MTF was represented by Ian Caruana who was accompanied in Holland by national coach Brian Saliba.
Caruana produced an excellent performance and went on to win the U-59kg category after having the better of three opponents in his category with scores of 8-1, 6-0 and 8-6.
Before the Open Windmills Championships, Caruana, winner of a gold medal in a similar tournament in England last year, underwent an intensive training programme prepared by Saliba and instructor Stephen Formosa.
The federation is working hard to develop Taekwondo in Malta and is making all its efforts to give its members the best training programmes possible.
Caruana's participation in Holland was made possible through the assistance of the Malta Olympic Committee.
Those interested to start practising Taekwondo may contact the federation on 9945-2010 or visit www.mtf.org.mt.
