British expatriate Peter Wright is chopping off his locks for two worthy causes in Gozo: the SPCA and heart monitors for the General Hospital.

Mr Wright, who has grown his hair for the past three years, is now the proud owner of hair that is some 15 inches long.

Now he is cutting it off for cash and has invited all his friends in Gozo and abroad as well as businesses to be his sponsors.

Execution day is on Wednesday, when he will have his hair shaved off by the highest bidder. He will donate all the proceeds - half to Gozo SPCA and the other half towards providing new heart monitors for the local hospital.

He has decided to send his hair locks to America for wigs for children who have lost theirs due to cancer treatments.

The idea came to him after visiting the Gozo SPCA Centre in Victoria, and seeing all the hard work.

And he decided to combine the two after a friend went into hospital and he learnt about the need for five heart monitors.

He is keeping the highest bid quiet for the time being, anxious to secure as much as possible for his worthy efforts whether it's "by the inch" or a "total amount". All bids are welcome.
