The Department of Technology in Education was awarded the National ICT Educational Award during the National ICT Achievements Awards organised by the Computer Society of Malta.
The award was for the automated testing system that was developed by the secondary support staff.
The system, developed to supplement the written ICT exam, is an educational tool implemented in all state secondary schools. It presents questions to the candidates who then answer them via computer. It tracks the students' response, corrects the answers, collects the results and collates them.
Two initiatives by the IT Ministry were also presented with awards.
An eGovernment service called eVera, which provides a one-stop-shop for all drivers to renew their insurance and vehicle registration online, won the IT Project Award category. The eGovernment Framework, which is the next step of the eGovernment programme, was also nominated in this category.
The MyWeb Corporate - the deployment of the myWeb course in corporate environments - won the Information Society Award. The ICTv initiative - a television programme meant to educate and maintain awareness on the internet and ICT's contribution towards improving the quality of life - was also nominated in this category.
