Last thursday The Times concluded its editorial thus: "In the circumstances, Dr Mifsud has no alternative. His handling of the situation has offended public opinion and his position is now untenable. The red card is out."

The Times was writing about the high-handed, not to say arrogant, attitude concerning the case of a convicted paedophile registered on their books. The Malta Football Association decided to keep this person working close to children for several months after he was convicted.

Minister Dolores Cristina should be congratulated for her appeal to the MFA to remove Dr Mifsud. One hopes that this appeal will not fall on deaf ears.
