My travel agent has just told me that the next available flight to Brussels with Air Malta will cost me Lm223. Just three months ago my parents paid Lm123 for the same flight.

Claiming that the daily Air Malta flight to Brussels is jam-packed for the next fortnight, I had no option but to book and pay the airfare.

Like numerous other Maltese I work in Brussels/Luxembourg and like many others I regularly face this price hike in Air Malta flights to Brussels. Shouldn't our (often unwanted) trips to and from Brussels be made easier? After all, this is not a vacation but a recurrent work commitment.

It is true that the European Union reimburses travelling expenses on most occasions, but it's not always the case. Moreover, in cases of reimbursements, it is the employee who has to pay the airfare; the reimbursement comes months later.
